One of the main reasons why a lot of senior citizens don’t want to get a mobile phone is because of the expense of the cell phone plans out there. Since cell phones can really be important for anyone, especially seniors they really should have the ability to own one. There are a few providers out there that understand this and they are turning some of their marketing efforts into pushing senior packages that offer a lot of the regular features as other more expensive plans.

One program is offered by AT&T called AT&T Senior Nation 200. This is a wireless plan that gives seniors 200 anytime minutes along with 500 night and weekend minutes. This plan includes their long distance, call waiting, voice mail, conference calling, caller ID and call forwarding. They also can make unlimited calls to others who are also on the AT&T network. This plan is just around $30 per month.

Another one specifically for seniors is called Jitterbug by Great Call. This is one mainly for seniors and offer plans that range from 50 minutes for anytime a month and prices range from $14.99 to $79.99 for unlimited talk as well as text. All the plans will carry over with the anytime minutes and there are no contracts nor are there any cancellation fees to deal with. There are no extra charges for data. They have access to healthy tips on a daily basis, a phone book, calendar, text, and there is also access to a live nurse. However, there is a one time set up fee that you will need to pay.

Consumer Cellular considers itself the official service for the Association for Retired Persons. As of this year, 2011 their plans range from $19 per month for 250 minutes and can go up to $57 a month for 2,000 minutes per month. There are alerts before you go over your plans limits and the plan can be charged any time of the month and there are no extra charges for changing plans.

Verizon also offers a special senior package that’s called Verizon Nationwide 65 Plus. This is a special plan that gives 200 anytime minutes as well as 500 nighttime and weekend minutes all which costs $29.99 per month. There are no fees for any local long distance calls or any other charges for local long distance. You need to be 65 years or older in order to qualify for this plan.

If none of these plans seem to fit your needs, there is always the TracFone, although they don’t truly have a senior plan, their plans are far less money than any of the other wireless providers. If you don’t plan to use your phone a lot then this could be what you are looking for. You can get a plan that can cost you as low as $9.99 per month. Most of their new phones that you buy will come with double minutes for the life of the phone so this will double your monthly minutes for no extra charge each month.
